PsiQuantum has raised a $1 billion funding round at a $7 billion valuation, among the largest financings ever completed in the quantum computing sector, the company confirmed on Tuesday.

The round was backed by a mix of sovereign wealth funds and strategic technology investors, reflecting growing institutional conviction that fault-tolerant quantum computing, while still years from commercial maturity, represents a genuine platform-level technology shift.

Technical approach

PsiQuantum's photonic architecture differs from the superconducting qubit approach favoured by Google and IBM. The bet is that light-based qubits offer a more direct path to the error correction thresholds required for commercially useful quantum advantage.
